Among numerous other uses, herbs were known even from the ancient times for their curative properties, as they can be used in medicaments and treatments. The essential oil of common thyme contains 20 - 54 % thymol. Thymol, due to its antiseptic action, can be used in dentistry and it is the main ingredient of various mouthwashes and natural hand sanitizers. In addition, in older times it was used to medicate bandages and it has been proved to be effective against fungi that infect toenails. Α tisane made by infusing the herb in water can be useful against cough and bronchitis. In order to prepare it, we put 1 spoon of dry thyme or 2 spoons of fresh thyme, without the stalks, into a cup of boiled water, we cover it for 10 minutes and then we strain it.
